History
Operational History
- The Launch & The “Iron Wall” Era (2835 – 2870)
Launched from the prestige shipyards of Earth in the mid-29th century, the UEES Dunlevy was one of the earliest “Batch II” Javelins produced. Unlike the Childress, which was built for patrol, the Dunlevy was built for total war. She was assigned immediately to the 7th Fleet, serving as the anvil against which pirate armadas were hammered.
Her reputation was cemented during the Hadrian Border Crisis (2844). When a massive outlaw fleet attempted to overwhelm the Hadrian jump point, the Dunlevy parked herself directly in front of the jump tunnel. For 14 hours, she absorbed fire from three cruisers and dozens of bombers. Her heavy shielding and armor held just long enough for reinforcements to arrive. This action earned her the fleet nickname: “The Iron Doorstop.”
- The Vanduul Meat Grinder (2871 – 2915)
As the Vanduul threat metastasized, the Dunlevy was rotated to the bleeding edge of UEE space. She spent nearly four decades on the Vanduul Front, operating primarily out of the Vega and Virgil systems.
In 2908, during the Battle of the Orion Nebula, the Dunlevy famously engaged a Vanduul Kingship’s escort flotilla. While she could not match the Kingship alone, her turrets created a flak corridor so dense that it allowed a retreat for the devastatingly damaged carrier UEES Paul Steed. The Dunlevy took two torpedo hits to the engineering section during the retreat, venting 30 crew members into the void, a tragedy that is still commemorated by a plaque on the Engineering deck.
- Obsolescence and Mothballing (2916 – 2945)
By 2920, the Dunlevy was an aging warrior. Her internal reactors were of an older generation, less efficient than the modern Javelins rolling off the line on Idris IV. She was relegated to training duties in the Kilian System, serving as a live-fire practice target (using simulation rounds) for new naval recruits.
In 2945, following the Battle of Vega II and the rise of Admiral Bishop’s aggressive new naval doctrine, the Dunlevy was deemed too resource-intensive to modernize. She was stripped of her classified military torpedo payloads and her Size-12 main turrets were removed for use on newer hulls. She was towed to the furthest reaches of the MacArthur Boneyard and left to “cold sleep.”
Acquisition & Restoration Document
OFFICIAL UEE RECORD: CAPITAL ASSET TRANSFER DEPARTMENT OF NAVAL LOGISTICS // FLEET DISPOSITION
DOCUMENT ID: JAV-DST-TRANS-044 DATE: 2954.08.05 SUBJECT: Sale of Surplus Destroyer Hull (UEES Dunlevy)
- BUYER ATTESTATION
- Purchasing Entity: Carrier Strike Group 3 (CSG-3)
- Authorized Representative: R.Adm. Glenn “Pappy” Wade (Ret.)
- Clearance Level: UEE Advocacy “Tier 1” Defense Contractor
- THE “WADE” NEGOTIATION
The acquisition of a Javelin is rare. Admiral Wade leveraged his status and the success of the Childress restoration to petition High Command. He argued that CSG-3 required a “heavy anchor” to protect the supply lanes his fleet was patrolling.
Terms of Transfer:
- Price: Undisclosed (Estimated in excess of 450,000,000 UEC equivalent in assets and bonds).
- Condition: The ship was sold “Hull Stripped.”
- NO Main Battery Turrets (Size 12 slots empty).
- NO Torpedo Stock.
- NO Military Grade Shield Generators.
III. RESTORATION LOG: “Project Awakening”
Chief Engineer’s Notes (CSG-3):
Month 1: “She’s a mess. The Navy took everything not bolted down, and half of what was. Pappy walked the bridge today, ran his hand along the command chair, and told us to ‘wake her up.’ The reactor core is cold, but the hull is solid. No micro-fractures like the Childress.”
Month 4: “Weapon procurement is a nightmare. We can’t get military railguns. We’ve had to source aftermarket Behring heavy lasers for the STS turrets. Pappy called in favors from three different systems to get the shield generators from a salvaged station. They fit, but barely.”
Month 8: “The Dunlevy lives. We fired up the main thrusters today. The vibration shook the dust off the bulkheads. We are painting her in CSG-3 dark grey and blue. We’ve turned the old marine barracks into expanded quarters for the crew—this isn’t a navy ship anymore, we want our people comfortable.”
- CURRENT STATUS
Flagship of Carrier Strike Group 3 The UEES Dunlevy now serves as the mobile headquarters for Admiral Wade. While she lacks the raw torpedo firepower of her Navy days, her customized aftermarket turret array and upgraded point-defense systems make her a nigh-impregnable fortress against pirates and Vanduul raiders. She often deploys alongside the Childress, forming a heavy wall of steel that few dare to approach.
